Four stories high.
Mie chan had just woke up! I hadnšt even started on the first story, and
there were four to climb. I mean was this going to be an impossible task, or
was Mie going to be co-operative, and let me get this done. The first few
steps were easy. Pretty much lift the sole one after the other, and bounce a
little to keep the momentum going. Mie chan liked the little jolts and it
looked like it was going to be an easy climb to the second floor.
About half way up, I noticed breathing was getting just that little more,
you know, ha-ah, in and out. It was all right. The slap of the soles of the
rish kepps had a different tone to it too, something more hollow? In a
hollow well, it is only natural for things to go hollow. Well that flat slap
said it was true, at least in this case, and at least such thoughts had me
only a few steps away.
On blue I took a short rest. I put Mie down. All I could see was a long
corridor with gray carpet lined with blue doors. Mie was already at the
first door and quickly getting further away to the second. I called Mie
chan. This way! We are going to the yellow floor. Not that way.
It was too late my legs had already cottoned on and were in full stretch.
Mie stop! The gray carpet went as long as the eye could see, and Mie was
already whizzing past the fourth door. I said again, stop! At the fifth I
noticed the floor looked to have a kink. I mean it was still heading
straight. But the kink quickly started to twist. It was getting more
noticeable. Mie! I was at the fifth door. Mie was at the seventh. The whole
corridor now was twisting tighter and tighter almost to a corkscrew. One
second Mie was above then it was me. We were spinning I was running. Stop! I
caught Mie midair by the hand and tugged back. The corridor immediately
uncoiled. I said stay with me and headed, in hand, back to the well.
With over 36 of these vertical pieces [stories), ranging from 12 inches to
around four feet, or 1.4 meters, it is interesting that each one ends up
different from the other. Sometimes an exact shaped template gets used, but
so far the outcome is always different. The four here come from a group of 14, all of a height of 520 mm, and together represent three months work. While one piece is a shift away from the previous, there is also a movement towards a kind of multi-possibility within a singularity. And this is what I am interested in. The four were selected without too much thought. The templates are generally white so the color combination here is just that combination. I have included pieces [no 4] and [no 7] completed June 2003, and [no 10] and [no 14] completed in July.
